DANCE CONTEST
On the last day of the Festival, on September 6, 2009, a dance contest for couples and student groups has been scheduled as follows:
- Casino Cubano (Salsa): for couples
- Guaguancó: for couples
- Columbia: singols
- Rueda de Casino: groups (max 5 couples)
REGULATIONS:
Only the registered participants to the Festival can attend the contest.
(See rules on HOW TO PARTICIPATE for more information on Festival participation).
To attend the contest a PRELIMINARY SELECTION is mandatory. 10 couples will be selected for the Cuban Casino (Salsa) competition, 10 couples for the Guaguancò, 10 singles for the Columbia and 5 groups for the Rueda de Casino.
To attend the preliminary selection, the interested candidates must provide a four-minute video(VHS or DVD) showing the choreography of the kind of dance to be performed NO LATER THAN July, 04, 2009*.
A form including names and last names of ALL participants (couple or group), the name of the Dance School, the nationality and the e-mail address (or fax number) must also be provided with the video. This information will be used by TIMBALAYE STAFF to communicate the contest results.
The participants to the Rueda de Casino must indicate also the music chosen for the contest.
It is allowed to perform more than one dance category and tape all the choreographies on the same video.

All videos will be reviewed and evaluated by a Teachers Committee led by the Festival Artistic Directors, Ulises Mora and Irma Castillo. The results will be communicated by July 15, 2009.
All selected couples and groups will be AUTOMATICALLY and AT NO CHARGE registered for the contest that will take place on Tuesday, September 06 at Salón Rosado Benny Moré, “la Tropical” (41 y 46, Playa).
On this date the participants will have to meet at the welcome point located at the entrance by 01:00 pm hours for registration and assignment of the contest number.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The groups performing the Rueda de Casino will have to deliver the four-minute video with the chosen music for the choreography.
Every video will have to be delivered together with a form including the following information:
Name of the group leader, Nationality, Dance School.
All couples and singles performing other kinds of dance will dance impromptu for no longer than four minutes based on a music chosen by the Contest Jury (made of 5 members).
The contest, for each kind of dance, with exception of the Rueda de Casino, will be performed as follows:
- 1st selection: 2 teams of 5 couples (or singles) each
- 2nd selection: 2 teams of 3 couples (or singles) each
- Final: 2 couples (or singles)
The Rueda de Casino will take place as follows:
- Selection: each group performs its own choreography separately
- Final: 2 groups of finalists will dance the same choreography separately
At the end of the contest the winners of each category will be announced. A Meritorious Certificate will be awarded.
