The Organizing Committee of TIMBALAYE-Festival Internacional de Rumba Cubana, a project created by Ulises Mora and Irma Castillo, under the patronage of the Asociación Nacional Hermanos Saíz and the Consejo Nacional de Casas de Cultura, convenes to the 2nd edition of TIMBALAYE-Festival Internacional de Rumba Cubana.


The event will take place in Havana (Cuba) from September the 3rd to the 6th , 2009, and it will be dedicated to the knoledge of Rumba’s cultural phoenomenon, from the artistic and musical points of view and also from the historical and social perspectives, as an expression of Cuban identity.


MAIN TOPICS:

  • Time for discussion, studing and debate to know Cuba through its culture and traditions
  • Discussions on Cuban Rumba’s origin as a characteristic and peculiar product of Cuban society, derived from a process of Transculturation
  • Analysis of anthropological and socio-historical aspects of Rumba’s cultural phenomenon
  • Knowledge and study of rhythm and dance
  • Study of Cuban percussion as Rumba’s original and distinctive element
  • Percussion’s development and innovation in the musical genre of Rumba
  • Rumba’s influence and presence in other musical genres, especially in Casino Cubano (Salsa)
  • Timba as Cuban music’s evolution and as an adaptation to the contemporary dance style of Cuban people
